Senior Spotlight: Keenan Cooper | San Francisco State Graduate Portrait Session in San Pedro, CA
Some sessions leave a lasting impression — not just because of the photos we create, but because of the heart behind the story. Keenan Cooper’s senior portrait session was one of those unforgettable moments.
Keenan recently graduated from San Francisco State University, an incredible milestone in itself. But what makes his journey even more inspiring is his vision for the future: he feels called to become both a lawyer and a pastor. A rare and powerful combination — one that speaks to his deep desire to serve, lead, and bring justice and hope into the world. It was truly an honor to help him celebrate this chapter of his life through photography.
We met up in San Pedro, CA, a coastal town known for its scenic views and hidden gems. Keenan chose two locations that perfectly represented both the reflective and celebratory sides of this moment — Averill Park and the Korean Bell of Friendship.
The First Stop: Averill Park
Nestled in a quiet neighborhood, Averill Park is a lush and peaceful space filled with mature trees, walking paths, a small waterfall, and rolling green lawns. It was the ideal setting to begin Keenan’s session with more formal portraits in his cap and gown. We captured traditional shots to mark the academic milestone, but also took time to highlight more personal details — his soft smile, his confident posture, and the proud gleam in his eyes as he stood on the edge of what’s next.
We also made space for meaningful portraits that hint at the road ahead. Every shot at Averill Park felt intentional and full of purpose, much like Keenan himself.
The Second Stop: The Korean Bell of Friendship
As golden hour began to set in, we made our way up to the Korean Bell of Friendship, one of the most iconic and meaningful landmarks in San Pedro. The expansive views of the Pacific Ocean, the architectural beauty of the bell, and the soft light of early evening gave us a stunning setting to work with.
This location allowed us to explore the more romantic and introspective side of Keenan’s session. Here, he stood beneath the bell’s archways — symbolizing peace, strength, and cultural significance — which felt so fitting for someone whose future involves both justice and faith. We took portraits that were both posed and candid, mixing in quiet moments of reflection and joyful expressions of accomplishment.
Watching Keenan stand confidently on that hill, overlooking the ocean with the breeze in his hair, felt like the perfect visual for his story — someone deeply rooted in purpose, yet wide open to wherever the journey leads next.
A Heartfelt Celebration
This session wasn’t just about taking great photos (though we did that too!). It was about honoring a young man with a big vision and a bigger heart. Keenan’s desire to step into the world as a leader, a servant, and a voice for others is exactly what this world needs more of.
